Energy Department Showcases Advanced Security Technologies at Washington, D.C. Exposition

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is sponsoring a two-day exposition to exhibit advanced security technologies. Experts from DOE's national laboratories will demonstrate the latest technologies in physical and cyber security, modeling and simulations, sensors and information systems, interdependent infrastructures, and training and emergency response.

The exposition - "Assuring Our Energy Infrastructure: Solutions for the 21st Century," is being held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C., today and tomorrow, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exposition will give government and industry members a close-up look at the new technologies that may be applicable to their critical infrastructure protection needs.

"The work of the Energy Department's national labs on display here today shows how well they help ensure that America has adequate energy resources," Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham said. "The men and women at these labs continue to perform work that is vital to the defense of our homeland and the security of our energy infrastructure."

Technologies showcased at the expo will include advanced explosive detection, barrier and vehicle-intrusion countermeasures, ballistic protection, intrusion detection and access control. In addition, Supervisory Command and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA) vulnerabilities and protection technologies, vulnerability assessments of information technology systems, and other new cyber security technology will be featured. The expo will also include analyses of electric power systems and critical interdependencies by the National Infrastructure Simulation and Analysis Center (NISAC).

The DOE national laboratories participating are:
Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, Ill.
Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, N.Y.
Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory, Idaho Falls, Idaho
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, Calif.
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, Calif.
Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, N.M.
National Energy Technology Laboratory, Morgantown, W. Va.
National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Golden, Colo.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Richland, Wash.
Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, Plainsboro, N.J.
Sandia National Laboratory, Albuquerque, N.M.
The exposition is open to the public.
